Tragic Overnight Attack in Kyiv: Four Lives Lost Amid Russian Missile and Drone Strikes
In a devastating overnight assault, at least four individuals have lost their lives due to missile and drone strikes targeting Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, according to Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko. In a social media update, Klymenko reported that residential neighborhoods, hospitals, and sports facilities were among the areas hit.
The hardest-hit region was the Shevchenkivskyi district, where an entire section of a residential high-rise building was obliterated. Klymenko noted that several people remain trapped beneath the rubble, heightening the urgency of rescue efforts.
In the surrounding Kyiv region, a woman was killed, and two others sustained injuries during the Russian aerial bombardment, as stated by regional head Mykola Kalashnyk. The Russian military has yet to issue a statement regarding these attacks.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (DSNS) reported that 13 individuals, including two children and a pregnant woman, were injured in the Kyiv strikes. Disturbing footage captured the shock of residents being evacuated from a burning high-rise building, highlighting the chaos and destruction caused by the assault.
Numerous fires have erupted across the capital, and local officials confirmed that one entrance to a metro station was damaged during the attack. Many residents sought refuge in these underground stations throughout the night.
In recent weeks, Russia has intensified aerial assaults on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, continuing a pattern of aggression that began with the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by President Vladimir Putin in February 2022.
