In a surprising revelation, former Barcelona player Sergi Gomez has shared an unusual story involving Mauro Icardi, the former star striker. According to Gomez, Icardi once crafted a homemade slingshot and allegedly killed a pigeon, which he then proceeded to eat. This bizarre incident reportedly took place during their time at La Masia, Barcelona’s renowned youth academy, where Gomez and Icardi were teammates.
Gomez, who joined Barcelona as a 14-year-old in 2006, lived with Icardi and fellow player Sergi Roberto. During a recent episode of the Post United podcast, he recounted the strange encounter. "Mauro came to La Masia, and we were teammates for about three or four seasons," Gomez explained. "One day, he invited me to the park next door."
He described Icardi carrying a Y-shaped piece of wood he had fashioned into a slingshot. "He pointed to a tall pine tree and said, ‘See up there?’ Then he picked up a rock, stretched the rubber band, and… bam! He brought down the pigeon from about 20 or 30 meters up," Gomez recalled. After the incident, Icardi plucked the feathers, lit a fire, and cooked the bird right in front of Gomez, who was left amazed by the experience.
Despite this bizarre episode, Gomez reflected positively on his time spent with Icardi, stating, "We shared many moments together, and if he sees this, he’ll know I cherish those memories."
