Florian Wirtz has vehemently refuted speculation regarding his desire to wear an iconic shirt number at Liverpool. Granting the No. 10 shirt to Wirtz could potentially create tension with Mac Allister, who has cherished the honor of wearing it since joining Liverpool. Upon his arrival, Mac Allister emphasized the significance of the No. 10 in football, explaining, “I know how important the No. 10 is. I had the chance to take the No. 8, which also holds great meaning for this club due to [Steven] Gerrard. However, I chose No. 10 because it’s a number I’ve used frequently, both in Argentina and at Brighton under-23s.”
As discussions continue, it remains uncertain what shirt number Wirtz will wear at Liverpool if his transfer proceeds. Bayer Leverkusen is reportedly seeking around £120 million, while Liverpool has already put forth an offer of approximately £105 million, according to Sky Sports. Despite interest from Manchester City and Bayern Munich, Wirtz is reportedly focused on joining the Reds, primarily for the opportunity to secure more playing time.
Bild has indicated that Wirtz felt uncertain about his role at Bayern Munich, where it was suggested that Jamal Musiala, who recently extended his contract, would likely be prioritized in the lineup.
