Major Changes at SNL: Erin Doyle Elevated to Top Production Role
In recent weeks, NBC has shared numerous updates regarding cast changes at "Saturday Night Live" (SNL). However, one significant transformation remained under wraps until the highly anticipated premiere of the show’s 51st season. During the credits that rolled early Sunday morning following a memorable hosting performance by Bad Bunny, viewers learned of the promotion of Erin Doyle, a seasoned producer, to a top-tier position within the show’s production team.
Erin Doyle now stands alongside SNL veterans Steve Higgins and Erik Kenward in the upper echelons of the show’s management. Despite this shift, Lorne Michaels continues to serve as the executive producer. An NBC representative declined to comment on Doyle’s new role, and there have been no official announcements regarding changes in the production staff.
Having joined the SNL team in 2009 as an intern, Doyle has climbed the ranks, evolving from one of Michaels’ assistants to a key player in the show’s production. According to a biography of Lorne Michaels penned by Susan Morrison, editor of The New Yorker, Doyle is known for her warm demeanor and her ability to manage the pressures of working with high-profile talent. In addition to her work on SNL, she also produces shows for Michaels’ production company, Broadway Video. Morrison notes that Doyle often serves as the show’s moral compass, identifying jokes that might be deemed offensive by audiences.
While Doyle’s new position marks an exciting milestone in her career, her day-to-day responsibilities may remain largely unchanged. Steve Higgins has been a fixture at SNL since 1995 and currently contributes to "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," while Erik Kenward has been with the program since 2001, initially joining as a writer. With these leadership changes, SNL continues to evolve while maintaining its legacy of innovative comedy and entertainment.
