E! News Canceled Again: What This Means for the Future of Celebrity Coverage

In a surprising turn of events, "E! News" has been canceled once more. The popular celebrity news program will continue to air new episodes until September 25 on E!, which is transitioning away from NBCUniversal to become part of the newly public company, Versant (formerly known as SpinCo).

This cancellation marks a significant moment, occurring just three years after "E! News" made its comeback following a two-year hiatus, having been initially terminated in 2020. The series, initially launched as a daytime show, returned to the airwaves as a late-night broadcast. However, the decision to end the show reportedly stems from the E! network’s strategy to enhance its entertainment coverage across digital and social media platforms.

As viewer preferences shift towards real-time digital content, the traditional 11 p.m. broadcast slot—occupied by "E! News" since 2022—is no longer meeting audience demands. E! has established a robust digital presence, boasting an impressive 87 million followers across various social media platforms.

While Thursday’s episode of "E! News" will be a repeat, fans can look forward to new episodes resuming next week. The cancellation news was communicated to the approximately 20 employees involved with the show early Thursday morning. Some of the correspondents from "E! News" are expected to transition to roles within Versant, although their specific positions have yet to be announced.

Despite the show’s cancellation, E! continues to produce original content, including series like "Botched Presents: Plastic Surgery Rewind" and "Honestly Cavallari: The Headline Tour." The network is also gearing up for new shows such as "Kimora: Back in the Fab Lane" and "E!’s Dirty Rotten Scandals." Additionally, E! will maintain its presence at Hollywood red carpets with "Live From E!" and will air the Critics Choice Awards on January 4.

Stay tuned for updates on how E! evolves in the ever-changing landscape of entertainment news!
