Karlovy Vary International Film Festival Unveils World Premiere of "Kingdom Come: Deliverance II"
The 59th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) is set to captivate audiences with an exciting expansion of its audiovisual offerings, featuring the world premiere of "Kingdom Come: Deliverance II Cinematic Cut" as part of its Special Screenings section. This cinematic adaptation of Warhorse Studios’ critically acclaimed video game promises to deliver a fresh and engaging storytelling experience.
Karel Och, the artistic director of KVIFF, expressed his enthusiasm for this unique collaboration, stating, "We are honored to partner with industry leaders on this exceptional project. It aligns perfectly with our mission to showcase powerful narratives presented in innovative ways."
Warhorse Studios’ CEO Martin Frývadlský shared his excitement, saying, "I’ve longed to see Kingdom Come: Deliverance II on the big screen. The compelling story of a blacksmith’s son will resonate with film audiences and stand strong against international cinematic productions. My team and I take pride in presenting this story, which we’ve passionately developed over the years, at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival."
The medieval role-playing game (RPG) is set in the tumultuous Kingdom of Bohemia in 1403, where chaos reigns as invaders lay waste to the land. The protagonist, Henry of Skalitz, seeks vengeance for his family’s murder. As a loyal ally of the rightful king, Henry embarks on a dangerous diplomatic mission with Sir Hans Capon. Their journey is fraught with peril, testing their skills, character, and friendship.
The cinematic cut is directed by Daniel Vávra and Petr Pekař. Vávra, a seasoned Czech screenwriter and game designer, is renowned for his work on the iconic game Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven, as well as the highly praised Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Pekař, who transitioned from editing and directing to the video game industry, has contributed to significant titles like Mafia III and Kingdom Come: Deliverance. As Warhorse Studios’ cinematic director, he has overseen the creation of over five hours of cutscenes that enrich the narrative of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II.
The world premiere is slated for July 9 at KVIFF, with an opportunity for audiences to engage with the game’s creators during a KVIFF Talk earlier that day. The festival will take place from July 4-12 in the picturesque Czech spa town of Karlovy Vary.
