In an interview with TV Insider, Sweeney expressed her disappointment, saying, “I was so devastated that my schedule didn’t allow me to film the funeral scenes for John Black with the rest of the cast. However, I had a wonderful conversation with [then-Co-Executive Producer] Janet Spellman-Drucker, who assured me that the writers would find a way for me to return as soon as possible, which meant so much to me.”
Sweeney shared that even though Sami and John had resolved their differences on-screen, she still carries the emotional weight of their complex history. “After Sami’s last visit, where she spoke with [her son] Johnny about going to therapy, she became more aware of how her past actions impacted John,” she explained. “The writers reminded me of that crucial moment when Sami apologized, but I believe Sami wouldn’t forgive herself so easily.”
