David Corenswet on His Superman Suit Experience: A Behind-the-Scenes Look
David Corenswet, the talented star of the upcoming Superman film in the new DC Universe, recently opened up about his unique experience of donning the iconic superhero costume. As the film, directed by James Gunn, gears up for its release on July 11, Corenswet shared insights into the "intense experience" of fitting into his tights and trunks.
During a conversation with People, Corenswet revealed that the snug fit of the suit was a challenge. "The suit was tailored to my measurements during the screen test when I weighed around 195 pounds. However, by the time of my first costume fitting, I had gained weight, tipping the scales at about 235 to 240 pounds," he explained.
He humorously recounted feeling a bit claustrophobic in the suit, stating, "You hear other actors talk about the struggle of squeezing into superhero outfits, and I totally understood that feeling." Despite the suit featuring "lots of zippers," Corenswet noted there was "no single zipper" for quick bathroom breaks. Fortunately, he added, "I never had an issue with that."
Corenswet also praised his costume designer, Scott R. Hankins, calling him "the most amazing dresser you could ask for." He likened Hankins to a "mob fixer" for always having his back. "He was consistently checking in with me, asking, ‘Do you need a break?’ If I did, he would make sure to communicate it for me," he recalled. “We developed a great system for getting in and out of the suit quickly, allowing me to take breaks as needed throughout the day.”
