Sir David Beckham Undergoes Successful Surgery to Remove Long-Embedded Wrist Screw

Sir David Beckham has recently undergone surgery to remove a screw from his wrist that had been embedded in his forearm for over 20 years. The metal pin was inserted following a wrist fracture during an England match in 2003, but it failed to dissolve as expected.

Victoria Beckham, his supportive wife, took to Instagram to express her love, posting a heartfelt message that read, "Get well soon, daddy." The 51-year-old fashion designer shared touching photos of the former England captain, 50, wearing a blue sling and a wristband that said "Get well soon."

A source revealed to The Sun that Beckham had been experiencing pain for many years but initially brushed it off. However, in recent months, the discomfort became unbearable, prompting him to seek medical attention. Thankfully, the surgery was successful, with Victoria by his side throughout the procedure.

This injury dates back to a friendly match against South Africa at Durban’s Kings Park Stadium in May 2003. During the game, Beckham fell awkwardly after a challenge from South African player Thabang Molefe, resulting in a wrist fracture. Despite the injury, he continued to play with his arm heavily strapped and even assisted Gareth Southgate before being substituted just minutes into the second half.

The tackle that led to Beckham’s injury was notably aggressive, with footage capturing the moment he was slammed to the ground. Following the match, medical staff rushed him to the hospital, where doctors placed a screw to repair the fracture.

Recent medical scans revealed that the screw, which was intended to dissolve over time, had instead remained lodged in Beckham’s forearm for 22 years. "A routine scan showed that the pin which was meant to have dissolved hadn’t, so he was booked in to finally resolve the issue all these years later," the source explained.

Throughout his career, Beckham has openly discussed the physical toll that professional football has taken on his body. In a recent interview, he reflected on the years of "wear and tear" from his time on the pitch. He even shared that his final match for Real Madrid required extreme measures just to get through.

The wrist surgery is just one of many injuries Beckham has endured during his illustrious career, which includes stints with Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain. As he recovers with the support of his family, fans and loved ones wish him a speedy recovery.
