Zohran Mamdani Triumphs in NYC Mayoral Election, Dave Portnoy Reacts

In a surprising turn of events, Zohran Mamdani emerged victorious in the New York City mayoral election on Tuesday, much to the dismay of Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy. Just last month, Portnoy hinted at a potential move for his company out of New York, stating he had discussions with his finance team about exploring property options outside the city.

"I’ve seriously considered relocating… maybe to Hoboken or Jersey City," Portnoy expressed during a livestream. "I just can’t stand having an office in Manhattan anymore."

Following Mamdani’s win, Portnoy’s fears materialized. The 34-year-old Democratic socialist is set to take office in January, prompting Portnoy to share his thoughts on social media the next morning. "If this is what the people of NYC want, then so be it. Thank goodness I don’t live there anymore," he posted on X.

In a previous interview with FOX Business, Portnoy didn’t hold back, labeling Mamdani a "communist" and one of the "worst, scariest candidates." He criticized Mamdani’s views on capitalism, stating, "He wants a fundamental shift in what has built this country, and he doesn’t hide it."

Furthermore, Portnoy accused Mamdani of being quick to "side with terrorists," referencing Mamdani’s criticism of Boston police for their handling of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev during the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing investigation. "His reaction was about the police not reading Tsarnaev his Miranda rights rather than focusing on the victims. This is someone from a city that experienced 9/11," Portnoy remarked.

Mamdani’s election victory came at the expense of former governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa, who controversially remained in the race despite the odds.
