Dave Franco Reflects on His Embarrassing ‘Superbad’ Moment That Fueled His Acting Career
Dave Franco recently opened up about how his role in the iconic film Superbad became one of his most cringe-worthy experiences, both on and off the screen. In the 2007 buddy comedy, featuring Jonah Hill and Michael Cera, Franco made a brief yet memorable appearance as Greg the Soccer Player—one of his earliest roles in Hollywood.
During a pivotal scene, Hill’s character, Seth, playfully calls out Franco’s character for a past incident of wetting his pants. This embarrassing moment not only left a mark on Franco’s character but also sparked a series of awkward encounters with fans. In a candid discussion on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Franco shared how this single scene led to some uncomfortable public interactions, with fans frequently quoting the line, “Why don’t you go piss your pants again?”
“I had a journey with that scene,” Franco explained to host Alex Cooper. “Even with just a few lines, Superbad was such a massive hit that people started recognizing me on the street.” He humorously recounted the reactions, which often left him feeling embarrassed.
Instead of letting this awkward moment define him, Franco used it as a source of motivation to continue auditioning. “I quickly realized, ‘I gotta keep working and get more jobs, so I’m not known as the ‘piss boy’ for the rest of my life,’” he admitted.
Since then, Franco has successfully built an impressive filmography, starring in numerous projects such as 21 Jump Street, Now You See Me, Neighbors, Now You See Me 2, Nerve, and most recently, Together, alongside his wife, Alison Brie.
Superbad follows two co-dependent high school seniors navigating the challenges of separation anxiety after their plans for a wild party unexpectedly fall apart. Franco’s experience serves as a reminder that even the most embarrassing moments can lead to growth and greater opportunities in one’s career.
