Colman Domingo Joins the Cast of Wicked: For Good as the Cowardly Lion
In an exciting announcement, Colman Domingo has officially joined the cast of Wicked: For Good, bringing to life the beloved character of the Cowardly Lion. The news broke on Monday via the movie’s official social media accounts, following a recent tease by director Jon M. Chu about a major actor taking on this iconic role. Domingo’s addition enhances an already star-studded lineup, which includes Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba (now reimagined as the Wicked Witch of the West) and Ariana Grande as Glinda, also known as Glinda the Good.
Wicked: For Good will introduce several new characters from the classic tale of The Wizard of Oz, with the Cowardly Lion among them. Other familiar faces like the Tin Man, Scarecrow, and Dorothy have also been hinted at in early promotional material for the film. However, the casting details for these characters have yet to be revealed.
This sequel marks a significant moment in the Wicked saga, as it will be the first time Elphaba and Glinda officially cross paths with the iconic quartet from The Wizard of Oz. Staying true to the original Broadway musical, the film will intertwine the timelines of the beloved 1939 movie with the events that unfold as Dorothy arrives in Oz.
Adding to the impressive cast, Jonathan Bailey will portray Prince Fiyero, Michelle Yeoh takes on the role of Madame Morrible, and Jeff Goldblum will appear as the Wizard. Both Erivo and Grande received Oscar nominations for their performances in the first film, which garnered a total of 10 Academy Award nominations and two wins.
Fans can look forward to the release of Wicked: For Good, which is set to hit theaters on November 21, continuing the enchanting story that began in the first installment. Don’t miss the magic as this highly anticipated sequel unfolds!
