In a heated NFL showdown on Sunday night, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes wasn’t interested in the drama that unfolded after their victory over the Detroit Lions. The incident began when Lions defensive back Brian Branch dismissed Mahomes’ postgame handshake, which escalated into a confrontation with Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster. Branch pushed Smith-Schuster, sparking a brief skirmish before both teams retreated to their locker rooms.
When NBC’s Melissa Stark inquired about the altercation, Mahomes responded candidly, stating, "We play the game in between the whistles. They can do all the extracurricular stuff they want, but we focus on the game." This marked one of the more intense moments we’ve seen from Mahomes following a regular-season win, as he shifted from smiles to a serious demeanor.
During his postgame press conference, Mahomes emphasized the need to move past the incident. "At this point, it kind of is what it is. You just gotta move on. We won the football game, and I thought we played well. Now we’re onto the Raiders," he remarked.
Branch may face fines and a potential suspension for his actions in the scuffle. The Chiefs ultimately triumphed over the Lions with a score of 30-17, improving their season record to 3-3.
