The Brit List 2025: Showcasing the Future of British Screenwriting Talent
The Brit List, a premier platform dedicated to highlighting emerging British screenwriting talent, has announced its highly anticipated lineup for 2025, featuring the best unproduced film and TV scripts. Since its inception in 2007, The Brit List has aimed to celebrate exceptional British voices, compiling its annual selection based on recommendations from a diverse range of industry professionals, including production companies, talent agencies, financiers, and broadcasters.
This year’s list serves as a reflection of current industry tastes and trends, showcasing a remarkable balance of male and female writers, with half of the featured talents representing historically underrepresented voices. For the 2025 edition, at least seven recommendations were required for inclusion, resulting in 15 standout scripts crafted by 16 talented writers.
Leading the pack is "Don’t Even Go There" by Robert Cawsey. This feature film blends comedy and horror in a gripping tale about a family hiking trip in Wales that takes a terrifying turn when an ancient monster is unleashed, seeking vengeance on the locals.
In second place, "P.O.V" by Dylan and Blake Ritson—known for his role as Oscar Van Rijn in The Gilded Age—presents a thought-provoking story set in a dystopian future where state-issued glasses shape people’s perceptions of reality. A faulty prescription leads the protagonist, Lyle, to discover a truth he wishes he could unsee.
"Discretion," penned by Dylan Brady, known for his role in Andor, secures the third spot. This erotic thriller follows struggling actor Jacob, who, after being offered a nannying job by a successful producer and her movie star husband, devises a plan to seduce them, unaware that he is stepping into a dangerous trap.
Alexandra Arlango, founder and director of The Brit List, shared her excitement about this year’s selection: "We have an impressive array of unique voices that transport audiences to fresh, bold worlds. Notably, this year features a significant number of scripts in the sci-fi and horror genres, balanced by an influx of comedic narratives. It’s telling that many scripts on The Brit List 2025 have not yet attached a production company, reflecting the challenges facing the film and TV industries today. It underscores the importance of taking creative risks and supporting exceptional storytelling."
Historically, nearly one in four scripts featured on The Brit List have gone on to be produced, with notable successes including The King’s Speech, Paddington, and The Favourite. The writers featured in The Brit List 2025, supported by partners like Audible and the Film Distributors’ Association, will benefit from a comprehensive six-month program. This initiative includes weekly seminars with industry insiders, covering essential topics such as personal finance, mental health, pitching strategies, and personal branding.
