Tragic Bridge Collapse in India: Casualties and Rescue Operations Underway
In a devastating incident, at least two individuals have lost their lives and over 30 others have sustained injuries following the collapse of a bridge in Pune, Maharashtra. The bridge, which spanned the Indrayani River, collapsed on Sunday, leading to a chaotic scene as several people were swept away by the rushing waters.
Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, took to social media to express his condolences and provide updates on the situation. He confirmed that a thorough search and rescue operation is currently in full swing to locate those missing. According to reports, six people have been rescued, while 32 individuals have been injured, with six in critical condition. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed to assist with the rescue efforts, and other emergency services are on high alert.
This tragic event comes just days after another aviation disaster in India. An Air India flight tragically crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport, resulting in the loss of at least 270 lives. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, carrying 53 British passengers, crashed into a residential area moments after departing.
Adding to the grim news, earlier on the same day as the bridge collapse, a helicopter carrying Hindu pilgrims crashed in a forested region near the Kedarnath pilgrimage route, claiming the lives of seven people onboard. The helicopter was en route to Guptkashi, a significant pilgrimage site in the Himalayas, and crashed mere minutes after takeoff.
