Israeli Forces Recover Bodies of Couple Taken by Hamas During October 7 Attacks

In a significant development, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the recovery of the bodies of Judi Weinstein Haggai, 70, and Gad Haggai, 72, who were taken into Gaza by Hamas during the attacks on October 7, 2023. The Israeli military, in collaboration with the Shin Bet security agency, conducted a special operation to retrieve the couple’s remains.

In his statement, Netanyahu expressed his condolences, saying, "Together with all the citizens of Israel, my wife and I extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families of Judi and Gad. Our hearts ache for this profound loss. May their memory be a blessing." He emphasized Israel’s commitment to bringing home all abductees, both living and deceased, and vowed that the nation would not rest until they are returned.

The Hostages and Missing Persons Families Forum has been actively advocating for the safe return of Israeli citizens held captive by Hamas. In a poignant statement, the families of the hostages remarked, "While the return of Judi and Gad is a painful and heartbreaking moment, it also provides some healing amidst our uncertainty. Their return serves as a reminder that it is the duty of the state to bring everyone home, allowing families and the people of Israel to begin healing and recovery."

The forum urged decision-makers to take immediate action to negotiate the return of the 56 remaining hostages, emphasizing the need for an agreement that facilitates the rehabilitation of the living and the proper burial of the deceased. "There is no need to wait another agonizing 608 days for this. The mission could be completed as soon as tomorrow morning, which is what the majority of the Israeli people desire," they stated.
