Exciting News: Phasmophobia is Getting a Movie Adaptation from Blumhouse!

The popular paranormal horror game Phasmophobia is set to make its big-screen debut, thanks to Blumhouse Productions. This renowned company, celebrated for its spine-chilling films, revealed the thrilling announcement during its inaugural event, The Business of Fear, held in Hollywood.

Originally launched in 2020 by the British indie studio Kinetic Games, Phasmophobia has taken the gaming world by storm, boasting over 23 million global sales. This title has established itself as a benchmark in multiplayer horror gaming, offering players a unique first-person perspective as they delve into ghostly investigations. Whether playing solo or teaming up with friends, players work to identify the type of ghost haunting various locations, making for an engaging and eerie experience.

Blumhouse, in collaboration with Atomic Monster and Kinetic Games Limited, will bring this chilling narrative to life on the silver screen. In July 2024, Blumhouse conducted an in-depth survey, categorizing 100 iconic horror films from the last five decades into distinct subgenres. The findings highlighted the paranormal subgenre as one of the 24 flourishing categories, alongside survival, slasher, and psychological thriller genres.

During The Business of Fear event, Blumhouse CEO Jason Blum and President Abhijay Prakash, alongside Atomic Monster’s James Wan and horror analyst Stephen Follows, discussed the evolution of horror and the importance of subgenres in catering to the diverse tastes of audiences.

Blumhouse’s recent releases include Drop, The Woman in the Yard, Wolf Man, House of Spoils, Speak No Evil, Afraid, Imaginary, Night Swim, Five Nights at Freddy’s, and The Exorcist: Believer. Looking ahead, fans can anticipate upcoming releases such as M3GAN 2.0 on June 27, 2025, Black Phone 2 on October 17, 2025, and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 on December 5, 2025.

Stay tuned for more updates on the Phasmophobia film adaptation, as this collaboration promises to deliver an unforgettable horror experience that fans of the game and genre alike will not want to miss!
