Michelle Beadle Reacts to Schedule Change on SiriusXM Mad Dog Sports Radio
In a recent episode of her show "Beadle and Decker," Michelle Beadle expressed her surprise at the announcement that Stephen A. Smith’s new program, set to debut in September, will be taking over her time slot on SiriusXM Mad Dog Sports Radio. Beadle candidly described the situation as "a little embarrassing," sharing that her show, which she co-hosts with Cody Decker, will no longer air from 12-3 p.m. ET on weekdays.
"The cat’s out of the bag; I guess we’re talking about it now," Beadle said during Wednesday’s airing. Although she and Decker received only a few hours’ notice about the schedule change, they were not informed of any specific details, including who would replace them in the lineup. "We were promised that no details would be released. We didn’t even know who was taking our place," Beadle explained.
Adding to her frustration, Beadle discovered the details of the schedule change from a report by The Hollywood Reporter. "Unbeknownst to us, they had all the details," she stated. "It’s a bit embarrassing, honestly. I’ve been in this business for over 20 years and have faced my share of challenges. This one didn’t feel great."
During her show, Beadle refrained from mentioning Smith, who is a prominent figure at her former employer, ESPN. Prior to her departure from ESPN in 2019, she hosted the network’s "NBA Countdown." In addition to her role at SiriusXM, Beadle is currently the host of FanDuel TV’s "Run It Back," focusing on NBA discussions.
Stephen A. Smith announced his multi-year deal with SiriusXM during an appearance on "The Howard Stern Show." He is set to begin his new role on September 2, where he will tackle the biggest sports topics. Additionally, he will host a second show that delves into "weekly current events, pop culture, and more," although a premiere date for that show has yet to be confirmed.
"To say that I’m excited would be an understatement," Smith remarked about his SiriusXM deal, according to the New York Post. "I’ve been on Mad Dog before and had the time of my life. Reuniting with Mad Dog on his turf is a beautiful thing. Plus, having a platform to discuss riveting subjects in pop culture, politics, and social commentary is an incredible opportunity."
Chris "Mad Dog" Russo, a well-known personality in sports media, frequently appears on ESPN’s "First Take," which Smith leads.
