Barco Expands Premium HDR by Barco Format in Germany: A New Era for Cinematic Experiences
Barco, a leader in cinema projection technology, is thrilled to announce the expansion of its premium HDR by Barco format in Germany, set to launch this November. Select Cineplex locations and the renowned Cinedom Cologne will be the first to showcase this cutting-edge technology, marking a significant milestone in European cinema.
This expansion brings premium large format cinema to Cineplex Goslar and Cineplex Paderborn for the very first time, enhancing the movie-watching experience for audiences across the country. The initiative kicks off in three Cineplex venues: Cineplex Münster, Cineplex Paderborn Pollux, and Cineplex Goslar, all featuring the new “Ultimate in HDR by Barco” experience. Cineplex Münster, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this month, will proudly become the first cinema globally to offer two auditoriums equipped with HDR by Barco technology, elevating its current premium large format (PLF) offerings.
At Cinedom Cologne, the introduction of HDR will coincide with the launch of the innovative “CinedomX” experience, a fresh concept in premium cinema designed to captivate moviegoers. With installations already underway, audiences in Germany can expect to enjoy major holiday blockbusters in HDR by Barco format this festive season.

Steegen emphasized the focus on expanding HDR by Barco through the company’s patented Lightsteering technology: “Innovation is at the core of everything we do. Barco’s HDR technology has already elevated films like “Superman,” “F1,” and “28 Years Later,” with the highly anticipated “Wicked: For Good” also set to be released in HDR format this year.
In addition to its European expansion, Barco is broadening its HDR reach in the U.S., partnering with various exhibitors to establish over 30 HDR locations by year-end. Regal Cinemas plans to introduce 20 RPX screens across the United States, while Alamo Drafthouse will also be adding several HDR screens.
Barco’s HDR by Barco technology utilizes patented Lightsteering capabilities, strategically redistributing light to achieve highlights that are over six times brighter than traditional projection. This ensures rich detail in darker scenes, creating an immersive viewing experience with greater depth and clarity.
