As the New Orleans Saints face a challenging start to the NFL season with a record of 1-5, trade speculations are heating up, particularly concerning star running back Alvin Kamara. However, Kamara remains steadfast in his desire to stay in New Orleans.
“I’ve made my feelings clear: I don’t want to go anywhere,” Kamara stated emphatically. “I’ve said it countless times, and I believe everyone—fans included—knows that.”
According to a report from NFL Network, Saints general manager Mickey Loomis recently approached Kamara after receiving inquiries from other teams about a potential trade. Loomis reportedly asked Kamara if he had a preferred destination. Kamara, however, was caught off guard by the news.
“We talked about it and looked at each other like the Spider-Man meme: ‘Did you say something? Did I say something?’” Kamara recalled with a laugh. “At the end of the day, it’s business.”
While Kamara understands the harsh realities of the NFL, he also holds a unique position as a veteran player. Although he lacks a no-trade clause, he playfully mentioned that retirement could be his ace in the hole.
“If I were a GM, I’d let the player know before trading them. If Mickey comes down and tells me I’m being traded, then I might just go sip a piña colada somewhere,” Kamara joked.
Approaching his 30th birthday in July, Kamara is no stranger to trade rumors. Last summer, he was focused on securing a new contract with the Saints, and his commitment to the team has never wavered. The Saints, who drafted him in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, rewarded him with a contract extension during the 2024 regular season, ensuring he remains with the team through the 2026 season.
“I want to be a Saint for a long time, as long as my career lasts,” Kamara affirmed last season. “That’s my goal.”
Kamara isn’t the only player drawing interest from other teams; wide receiver Chris Olave has also been mentioned in trade talks as the deadline approaches.
Through six games this season, Kamara has accumulated 314 rushing yards on 83 carries, along with one touchdown. He has also caught 22 passes from quarterback Spencer Rattler, totaling 122 receiving yards.
