Tragic Loss: Kierston Russell, Twin Sister of Alabama QB Keelon Russell, Passes Away at 18
Kierston Russell, the beloved twin sister of University of Alabama freshman quarterback Keelon Russell, has tragically passed away just days after their high school graduation. She was only 18 years old. The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Kierston’s death in a statement, noting that the investigation into the circumstances surrounding her passing is ongoing.
In a statement released by Capt. Jack Kennedy of the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit, it was mentioned, “There has been considerable media attention concerning a death investigation that occurred in Tuscaloosa on June 4, 2025.” He added that, after speaking with the family, they have given permission to confirm Kierston’s death while emphasizing that the investigation appears to be non-criminal in nature at this time.
Kierston was a talented basketball player at Duncanville High School in Texas and was set to join her brother at the University of Alabama this August. The twins had recently celebrated their graduation last month.
Keelon Russell, a five-star recruit who recently enrolled early and participated in Alabama’s spring training, took to Instagram to share heartfelt memories of his sister. He posted a prayer, expressing gratitude for the blessings in his life, stating, "Dear God, Thank You that every good and pleasant gift is from above." He referenced James 1:17, affirming his faith and gratitude during this difficult time.
Kierston’s basketball team also expressed their sorrow on social media, stating, “With shattered hearts, we mourn the loss of our sister & teammate, Kierston Russell. A fierce competitor with a heart of gold – her light, love & legacy will live on. We love you, KRuss. Always.”
This devastating news has sent ripples through the community, and our thoughts are with Keelon and the entire Russell family during this heartbreaking time.
