Simu Liu Discusses His Aspirations for Shang-Chi in the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Simu Liu is excited about his return as Shang-Chi in the highly anticipated Marvel film, Avengers: Doomsday, which is currently in post-production. Directed by the renowned Russo Brothers, Joe and Anthony Russo, this epic installment is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026. Following Doonsday, audiences can look forward to Avengers: Secret Wars, slated for release on December 17, 2027.
In a recent interview with ComicBook, Liu shared his enthusiasm for continuing to portray Shang-Chi in future Marvel projects. He expressed a strong desire to keep embodying the character "for as long as [he] physically can." While he didn’t reveal specific plot details for a potential Shang-Chi 2, Liu reflected on his experience working alongside seasoned Marvel actors who have portrayed their roles for over two decades.
"I found myself in a large Marvel movie with many actors who have developed their characters for so long," Liu remarked. "It was a bit intimidating stepping into their world. The challenge for me was to overcome the nervousness and focus on delivering my best performance." He emphasized that overcoming feelings of insecurity or impostor syndrome is crucial for any actor. "If we can shift our focus away from ourselves and concentrate on the character’s objectives, we can take it one step at a time. Hopefully, after years of dedication, someone will look at us and think, ‘Wow, I wish I could do work like that.’"
With Liu’s passion for the role and his commitment to the Marvel universe, fans are undoubtedly eager to see what lies ahead for Shang-Chi. Stay tuned for Avengers: Doomsday in December 2026 and Avengers: Secret Wars in December 2027, as these films promise to shape the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
